Contract
Life-Death Equation I
Eliminate a large number of hostile Runners within a single run
Life-Death Equation I is one of Arachne's most skill-demanding standard contracts in Marathon, requiring Runners to eliminate a large number of hostile enemy Runners within a single run. Unlike contracts that allow progress to accumulate across multiple sessions, this contract resets if you fail to extract: every Runner kill that counts toward Life-Death Equation I must happen in one unbroken run. The title frames the challenge in Arachne's characteristic philosophical terms, treating the raw arithmetic of kills-per-run as a kind of thermodynamic ledger. For the faction, surviving while killing many is not just a measure of skill; it is evidence of a Runner whose shell has achieved something approaching true efficiency.
Completing Life-Death Equation I requires proactively hunting other Runners rather than playing reactively, making positioning and zone knowledge critical. High-traffic points of interest where multiple squads converge offer the best opportunities for the kind of multi-kill runs the contract demands. Completion earns 100 faction reputation and 500 Credits, and the contract represents one of Arachne's clearest statements of intent: the faction rewards Runners who treat every session as a competition to eliminate as many opponents as possible.
