Ticks

creature

Ticks are large, carnivorous arthropods classified as mega-Cetoniinae and are presumed native to Tau Ceti IV. These creatures represent some of the planet's most aggressive indigenous fauna, and their current highly dangerous form may be at least partially the result of genetic modification carried out during the Colony Era. Historical records reference the research of Dr. Tobias Luttero, who studied Ticks extensively and found them impossible to domesticate, noting that they grew increasingly aggressive in the presence of human colonists. Ticks gestate in communal nests, which they defend with extreme ferocity, and they communicate with one another through ultrasonic signals inaudible to humans.

In the field, Ticks are relentless pursuers that will never retreat once a threat is identified. They rush any perceived threat in groups, and their most dangerous trait is their explosive death: upon being killed, a Tick detonates in a caustic, super-heated burst that can deal significant damage to anyone standing nearby. Runners should eliminate Ticks from a distance and step back immediately when one is near death to avoid the explosion. Their inaudible ultrasonic communication means killing one in a nest area may quickly draw reinforcements. Despite their danger, individual Ticks are among the weaker enemies on Tau Ceti IV and can be dispatched efficiently with moderate firepower.
