Sekiguchi Genetics is the corporation responsible for the most fundamental technology in Marathon: the Runner Shells known as biomata. These synthetic bodies are grown and maintained by WEAVEworms, biological constructs developed through Sekiguchi's proprietary genetics research, which allow digital minds to inhabit physical forms and persist through what would otherwise be lethal injuries. The fact that Runners can die and return is not an accident or a mystery; it is a Sekiguchi product. This makes Sekiguchi one of the most lore-significant factions in the game, as its technology underpins the entire premise of the Runner experience on Tau Ceti IV.

Sekiguchi's agent on Tau Ceti IV is Nona, who tasks Runners with gathering research data from across the colony's most dangerous zones. The faction's scientific interest in Tau Ceti IV is tied directly to its biological and genetic research programs: Sekiguchi wants to understand how its WEAVEworm technology and biomata Shells are performing in the field, and the ruined colony provides a uniquely hostile testing environment. Runners who work with Sekiguchi are, in a sense, field researchers contributing to the company's ongoing study of the technology that keeps them alive.

Sekiguchi contracts reflect the faction's scientific methodology: they reward survival and endurance rather than aggression. Runners earn reputation by exploring dangerous areas to collect research data, surviving extended periods in high-risk zones, retrieving documents and lost media found across Tau Ceti IV, and extracting with Sekiguchi valuables. This makes Sekiguchi the endurance faction in Marathon, rewarding patience, situational awareness, and the ability to outlast hostile environments and enemy encounters rather than dominating them through force.

Sekiguchi's upgrade tree spans 12 nodes and focuses on resilience, endurance, and post-respawn recovery. Progression through the faction unlocks health upgrades, resistance improvements, and regeneration-adjacent perks that improve a Runner's baseline survivability and performance after being brought back into the field. Because Sekiguchi's technology is the source of the WEAVEworm patents governing how Runners respawn and recover, its upgrade rewards have a satisfying in-universe logic: the more trust a Runner builds with Sekiguchi, the more its proprietary biology works in their favor.
