Cryo Archive is Marathon's endgame zone and the most dangerous location available to Runners in Season 1. Set within the interior of the UESC Marathon ship itself, the zone is a sprawling complex of frozen corridors, open kill zones, sealed vaults, and industrial cargo spaces that alternate between claustrophobic passageways and large chamber engagements. The ship's interior design reflects its dual identity as both a preservation facility and a secure research installation: cold storage bays, control centers, cargo transfer zones, and heavily secured index rooms form the backbone of the layout. The visible regions of the map include Cargo, Control, and Index areas, each serving a distinct role in the zone's progression. The sub-zero environment and the ship's locked-down security protocols combine to make Cryo Archive a zone that demands full endgame preparation from every Runner who drops in.

The defining feature of Cryo Archive is its vault system: seven sealed chambers distributed across the ship, each harder to breach than the last. The zone's interior design and lore connect directly to the original 1994 Marathon trilogy: the ship carries the AI systems Leela, Durandal, and Tycho, and the mysteries of what happened when the Marathon expedition went dark a century ago are woven throughout the environment's terminals, data logs, and sealed sections.
