Active Camo

Active Camo is the Assassin's Tactical ability in Marathon, granting temporary invisibility to the Runner. While the cloak is active, the Assassin becomes visually undetectable to enemies, allowing for deep flanks, repositioning across open ground, and escaping engagements that would otherwise be fatal. The invisibility is broken immediately upon attacking, taking damage, or activating another ability, meaning the Assassin must fully commit to their movement window before engaging.

Active Camo is one of the strongest repositioning tools in Marathon, but it has a notable hard counter in the form of Recon's Echo Pulse, which can detect invisible runners through walls. The ability carries a cooldown of approximately 5 seconds, making it one of the faster-recovering abilities in the Assassin's kit. The best use of Active Camo is as a pre-engagement setup tool: activating it before a fight to close the gap undetected, rather than trying to escape mid-combat after the cloak breaks. Pairing it with Smoke Screen lets the Assassin create chaos before going invisible, compounding the information disadvantage for enemies.
