Recon (formerly known by the codename Blackbird) is Marathon's intelligence and squad-support specialist, designed for players who want to win through information superiority rather than raw combat power. Described as a tactical strategist and detective, the Recon Runner excels at revealing enemy positions, tracking player movement, and feeding critical intel to squadmates in real time. In the right hands, Recon can make the entire team feel like they have wallhacks throughout a match.

The Prime ability, Echo Pulse, emits sonar pulses that detect and reveal nearby enemies through walls, including runners using invisibility abilities like the Assassin's Active Camo, making Recon a natural counter to stealth-heavy squads. The Tactical ability Tracker Drone deploys a spider-like robot that hunts down enemies, explodes on contact, and inflicts an overheat debuff, combining damage output with a disruptive status effect. The two passive traits reward an aggressive, information-gathering playstyle: Interrogation alerts the Recon player when they have been pinged by enemies and causes finisher moves to reveal the entire enemy crew's positions; Stalker Protocol reveals a holographic trail behind any enemy whose shields the Recon has recently broken, rewarding shield-breaking aggression with persistent positional data.
