Shroud

Shroud is a passive trait ability belonging to the Assassin Runner Shell in Marathon. Whenever the Assassin enters their own smoke cloud (whether generated by Smoke Screen or Shadow Dive), Shroud automatically activates a camouflage effect, making the Assassin invisible. The invisibility briefly lingers even after the Assassin exits the smoke, providing a short window to reposition without enemies immediately reacquiring visual contact.

Shroud is the core synergy driver of the Assassin's entire kit. By automatically converting smoke-entry into invisibility, it means every Smoke Screen throw and every Shadow Dive landing can become an instant camo trigger without spending the Active Camo cooldown. This layering of invisibility sources makes the Assassin exceptionally difficult to track in close-range environments with limited sight lines. The most effective Assassin players treat Shroud as the passive foundation around which all their ability usage is planned: throw smoke first, enter it to go invisible, then reposition or strike before the cloak's linger period expires.
