Tracker Drone

Tracker Drone is the Recon Runner Shell's Tactical ability in Marathon. When deployed, it releases a spider-like autonomous robot that independently hunts and chases the nearest enemy. Upon reaching its target, the drone detonates on contact, dealing explosive damage and inflicting an overheat debuff on the target. The overheat effect forces the enemy to slow down and reduces their ability to use heat-generating abilities, providing a meaningful status penalty on top of the direct damage.

Tracker Drone has a cooldown of approximately 10 seconds and excels at softening targets before a direct engagement: deploying it ahead of a push strips heat tolerance from an enemy runner, making it harder for them to use their own movement abilities or abilities with heat costs such as those of the Vandal. The drone also functions as a distraction tool, forcing enemies to either shoot it down or relocate, which disrupts their positioning and provides the Recon's squad with an opening. Sending the Tracker Drone through a doorway or chokepoint before the squad pushes through is a reliable way to reveal and weaken whatever is waiting on the other side.
