Riot Barricade

Riot Barricade is the Destroyer Runner Shell's Tactical ability in Marathon. When activated, it generates a frontal energy shield that absorbs incoming damage, protecting the Destroyer and any allies standing behind it from direct fire. The shield is positioned in front of the Destroyer and remains active while the ability is in use, creating a temporary mobile wall that can anchor a defensive hold or enable an advance across open ground under sustained fire.

Riot Barricade has a distinctive cooldown mechanic: the recovery time scales with how much damage the shield absorbed before it broke, meaning a shield that took heavy fire returns faster than one that expired with minimal use. This rewards deliberately using Riot Barricade in the teeth of enemy fire rather than activating it preemptively against light pressure. In team play, the Destroyer can lead a squad advance with Riot Barricade active, absorbing damage that would otherwise land on squishier squadmates. Combining Riot Barricade with the Thruster trait allows the Destroyer to dash forward while shielded, closing distance to enemy positions in a way that is both aggressive and defensively sound.
