Unstable Diode is a Standard-tier salvage material made up of corroded electronic components recovered from the technological debris of Tau Ceti IV. These semi-functional diodes still carry erratic electrical charges that make them hazardous to store, but their residual conductivity is valuable to factions engaged in electronics research and AI development. Unstable Diode is a primary upgrade material for both the CyberAcme and Sekiguchi Genetics factions, supporting early-tier nodes that enhance runner AI integration and biomata systems. It can also be bartered at the Armory for Shield Charges, making it an especially versatile salvage item for runners who depend on shielding in combat. Unstable Diodes drop freely across Perimeter and Dire Marsh, and are among the first materials new runners should focus on extracting when prioritizing CyberAcme or Sekiguchi progression in Marathon.
